Dry type transformers are employed to raise or lower voltage in systems. Architects use them in buildings alongside equipment in factories and power plants in the distribution of electricity. The minute transformers are referred to as "dry type" because they don't utilize any liquid for cooling like oil filled transformers. Instead, they rely on air or solid insulation to avoid overheating. 

Comparison of different dry type transformer designs

Dry type transformers come in two varieties - cast coil transformers and VPI transformers. Cast resin transformers are formed by pouring the liquid resin into a mold and allowing it to harden. These transformers are rugged, dependable and made to last. In contrast, vacuum pressure impregnated transformers have coils and isolation materials are vacuum sealed and then resin is forced in under pressure. These distribution transformer are designed for a high efficiency and performance.
