3 phase step down transformer

Transformers are super cool machines that help get electric current flowing safely and efficiently. One of the types of transformers that are widely found in industrial devices is the 3-phase step down transformer. So let’s find out what’s inside the 3 phase transformer and why they matter so much.

A 3-phase step down transformer from First Power is a mighty device to adjust the voltage level in the power system. It is converting high voltage electricity into low voltage electricity. And that matters because high voltage electricity is dangerous, and therefore must be “stepped down” to a less dangerous level before we use it in our homes and schools and businesses.

How does a 3 phase step down transformer work?

A 3 phase step down transformer operates based on the principle of electromagnetic induction. As a result, it has two series of coils, or wires, called the primary and secondary coils. The primary coil is energized and passes electricity, creating a magnetic field. This magnetic field is 'passed on' or 'induced', into (or 'onto') a fresh electrical current in the second coil. This new current has a different voltage than the original current, which is how the transformer “steps down” the voltage.
